What many people may not know is that if one wishes to race or tour the countryside, then one cannot use a Harley because it is the wrong type of motorcycle for that purpose, but it is what is known as a Cruiser.

There are three types of bikes: sport bike, cruiser, touring, and each are built differently to suit ones needs. A sport bike is built in such a way that the foot pegs and shifter face backwards and so do the rider’s legs. One leans forward and this gives that aerodynamic posture needed to ride at breakneck speeds. This bike cannot be taken on long trips as it places pressure on the wrists and the overall body posture is uncomfortable. A sport bike is known to have as many features on it, ensuring speed and high performance. They have a small seat, hidden engine and are made of mostly plastic material.

A cruiser, also known as a chopper, is usually a heavy machine that lets one sit back and their feet are placed forward to allow for a more comfortable ride. The speeds on a cruiser are not as high as those for sports bikes.

Touring bikes are used for long rides and can be used on regular roads. The shifter is placed directly below the waist and this allows one to sit almost upright to allow the rider to be as comfortable as possible on long trips. Touring bikes come with as much as cup-holders, luggage compartments, CD players, passenger armrests and so on. One should choose a sport bike for its speed and can only be used on a track, or a cruiser for a comfortable ride on a large bike, or a touring bike for a unique vacation ride.
