Motorcycle intercom systems make a person feel like he or she is not riding alone. They facilitate communication between riders or between riders and their passengers. Motorcycle intercom systems are mounted in the rider’s helmet. The intercom systems are typically used in challenging environments and it is important to choose one that works effectively.

There is a wide range of motorcycle intercom systems available. Acoustic motorcycle intercom systems do not make use of electronics. They are simpler and are utilized like earplugs. Mouthpiece tubes make it possible to speak through the device. The lack of electronics and batteries makes acoustic intercoms more reliable. The downside is that there is no provision for amplification and volume levels cannot be adjusted. Another disadvantage is that wearing earplugs for long periods may not be ideal for most people.

Wired intercoms connect riders and passenger through a series of wires and control box. External interference is never a problem with wired intercoms. The only inconvenience is the need to unplug the system whenever the rider or passenger wants to get off the motorcycle. Wireless motorcycle intercom systems use radio technology.

For motorcycle intercom systems to work well, the motorcycle helmet must be completely waterproof. Motorcycle intercom systems should be easily mounted on helmets or belts, depending on the particular model. A number of intercom systems can be used along with mobile phones using Bluetooth technology. This makes it possible for riders to make calls while using their intercom systems. The intercom systems should also be waterproof. An option is to cover the intercom but it would be much easier to purchase a waterproof one. Headset speakers may be for one ear or both ears and this is determined by the taste and preference and comfort level of the motorcycle rider.
