Due to the nature of leather, it is hard to add motorcycle jacket patches on leather jackets and yet, they add flair of individuality by defining your personality. However with a few tips, it can become easier and there will be no need to dread the process of sewing your own motorcycle jacket patches.
Even when using a machine, a majority of people make the mistake of using the normal sized machine needles that break up easily. It is far more advisable to use a thicker sized needle for leather and especially those used by shoemakers. They are specifically designed to get through tough material. However, when using the hands to sew in your motorcycle jacket patch, the first thing to do is to remove the lining around the area you intend to place the patch. This will provide room for you to place your finger between the lining and the jacket. Then you can proceed to sew it in. It is more appropriate to use nylon thread for sewing because it is thin enough and will not leave sewing marks.
To be more precise with the motorcycle jacket patch, mark the area the patch is supposed to be and ensure that the stitches are made from the inner side of the jacket. The stitches should be at the very least, one sixteenth of an inch apart and once you get back to the beginning of the stitch ensure it is tied tightly before cutting it off.
Alternatively, it would save a lot of time if you could get a shoe repairer to get the work of sewing in your motorcycle jacket patch and save you from getting sore fingers from the sewing. However, ensure you specify the color thread you want to be used to avoid getting a weird color that does not blend in with your jacket.
